CIGMA Ramadan Quiz 2024

How to please the Almighty as a struggling student during Ramadan 2024

There is a well-known struggle found in the life of every Muslim student: studying during Ramadan Kareem hours. It is a difficulty beyond comprehension as you are expected to balance both Ramadan fasting and studying. The change in circadian rhythm, the sleepiness and fatigue in the daytime hours, the plummeting energies after Iftar as well as the drowsiness during Taraweeh is all too familiar. It starts to get manageable as the days go by because the sensation of waking up at pre-dawn hours and then Ramadan fasting for more than 12 hours is a tad bit difficult to get used to.

As a student , however, it is a completely different story.

Students are often too fatigued to study during the Ramadan Kareem period due to the conditions mentioned. Not only does the body clock get affected, the change in routine requires time to get used to.

Ramadan 2024 is a beautiful and transformative experience for Muslims around the world, and students are no exception. While the demands of Ramadan fasting can create challenges in the classroom, these challenges can be overcome with a little planning and open communication.

A Divine Challenge

We are well-aware of the fact that unfortunate timing of the exams or assignment submission dates mixed with the divine timing of the holy month is a very sticky situation. As a muslim, you cannot bring yourself to actively dismiss Ramadan fasting to prioritize your grades because…you just can’t do that. Once you are of age, Ramadan fasting becomes obligatory upon you and unless you are old, chronically-ill, pregnant , lactating or menstruating  or fall sick during the Ramadan fasting period, you are supposed to fast. You can see for yourself that when exams collide with Ramdan, the entire muslim student body can be repeatedly heard saying one thing: ” I’m fasting”.

It is interesting to see so many students choose Ramadan fasting over grades, like a picture of universal brotherhood and sisterhood.

Of course, the timing of this entire thing can be nailed down to fate and must be handled in such a way that you do not neglect the Divine order of Ramadan fasting. It is a win-win situation for you as not only are you getting the reward for Ramadan fasting, you will be rewarded for choosing the words of Allah over your grades. Truly, it is a divine challenge with the most bountiful promised rewards and blessings!

Grades or Fasts?

The answer to such an oblivious question will be : Fasts.

Ramadan 2024 is a period of spiritual reset and reassessment of all your good and bad deeds. It is a period of fixing the erroneous habits and thriving to change for the better good. It is about changing for the sake of Allah and the HereAfter, in hopes that the Doors to Jannah will open for you.

Allah does not permit you to fast if you are ailing from medical issues. Sometimes, some students fall sick due to the added stress of exams. It is okay to take an exception here, after consulting a qualified Imam or any religious leader.  Exams are an obstacle in the way of your faith. Basically , they are screaming and urging you to choose them instead of Ramadan fasting.

We hate to inform you but the angels will certainly not ask you about your NEET score which you earned at your fiftieth attempt. Neither will they casually talk about the difficulties you faced at your workplace.

These ordeals test your faith and find out where your actual faith and belief lies. By prioritizing sleep, fueling your body with nutritious foods, and creating a study schedule that works for you, you can maintain academic focus and excel in your studies.

Remember, Ramadan kareem is also a time for self-discipline, and the skills you develop while managing your fast will translate into better time management and focus throughout the year.
